Dear Friends,

On Wednesday, the 100,000 Strong Foundation hosted its Spring Reception at the UPS Townhouse here in Washington, DC. We were honored to have so many supporters attend, including Sens. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), and Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA). Sens. Hirono and Kirk co-chair the Senate US-China Working Group, and Rep. Larson co-chairs the House US-China Working Group with Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA).

The three lawmakers offered remarks expressing deep appreciation for the role the Foundation is playing to advance the US-China strategic and economic relationship. We are grateful for their support as well as that of our reception sponsors: UPS, East West Bank and WorldStrides.

As Sen. Hirono said on Wednesday: “As Co-Chair of the US-China Working Group, I applaud the work of the 100,000 Strong Foundation for raising awareness of the importance of our relationship with China among our students. Through the life-changing experience of studying abroad and learning Mandarin, our country can expand career opportunities for our young people while strengthening our bilateral relationship. People-to-people ties are critical as our country’s economy and security become more and more linked to the Asia-Pacific. We stand to benefit economically, as the increased contact and friendships can help boost increased travel and business to America from China.”

We also heard from Sen. Kirk: “As the Co-Chair of the Senate US-China Working Group, I was glad to join my partners Sen. Hirono and Rep. Larsen in promoting stronger people-to-people ties between the United States and China. By promoting study abroad to China and Mandarin language learning, the 100,000 Strong Foundation is not only helping prepare our young people for the future, it is enhancing our two nations’ abilities to work together to confront our greatest challenges. The 100,000 Strong Foundation is making great strides to bring the United States and China together, starting with our students.”

“The 100,000 Strong Foundation does critical work to help American youth become China literate,” added Rep. Larsen. “I am glad to support their efforts. We need to encourage more American students to study in China because it will better prepare them to succeed in the 21st century economy.”

We are honored to be working with these visionary leaders in the US Congress who understand that getting the US-China relationship right is not a partisan issue, but one of great national interest.

Thanks for your support,
